Columbus, OH — Sonshine Christian Academy, the oldest African‑American private Christian school in the State of Ohio, will host a Retirement Banquet on June 13, 2026, from 5–7 PM to honor the extraordinary career of Mr. Ronald E. Hairston, an educator whose service to Central Ohio spans more than 40 years.
Mr. Hairston began his career at Sonshine Christian Academy shortly after its founding in 1981 and has since become one of the most influential educators in the Linden community. His work also includes more than a decade of service with Columbus City Schools, the largest school district in Ohio.
A tri‑lingual instructor licensed to teach multiple foreign languages, English Language Arts, and History, Mr. Hairston also holds a Permanent Non‑Public Teaching License, allowing him to teach all subjects. His career includes time spent teaching abroad, years of administrative leadership—including serving as Principal—and decades of shaping students academically, socially, and spiritually.
“Mr. Hairston is more than an educator—he is a pillar of our community,” said Dr. Davina Hicks, Superintendent of Sonshine Christian Academy. “His influence reaches across generations. As a former student of his, it is an honor to now work alongside him and to celebrate his legacy.”
As an African‑American male educator, Mr. Hairston has served as a vital role model for Black youth in Columbus, demonstrating the power of scholarship, discipline, and faith. His impact has touched thousands of students and families throughout Central Ohio.
Local government officials, alumni, former colleagues, and community members are invited to attend the celebration and to offer commendations recognizing Mr. Hairston’s lifelong dedication to education.
